Fenerbahçe of Abondanza dropped out of the Champions League after drama with Scandicci and a golden set

Fenerbahce said goodbye to the Women's Champions League finals after an extremely dramatic return match against Scandicci. The team led by national coach Marcello Abbondanza managed to send the match to a golden set after winning 3:1 (32:30, 19:25, 25:13, 27:25), but in the decisive moments the Italian side showed stronger nerves and triumphed 15:13.

The hosts played a match under immense pressure and at times seemed capable of completing the comeback. Melissa Vargas and Arina Fedorovtseva led Fenerbahce with an impressive attacking performance, and the team showed character to achieve the necessary success and equalize the overall balance between the two teams.

In the golden set, however, Scandicci entered more focused. The Italians found the right rhythm in the most important rallies and, with one more attack, as well as a decisive point after an opponent's error, closed the set at 15:13. Thus, the team secured its place in the Final Four in Istanbul, where they will face Eczacıbaşı, who eliminated Polish KS DevelopRes Rzeszów.

Above all for Fenerbahce was Arina Fedorovtseva, who played a phenomenal match and finished with a colossal 36 points. Melissa Vargas supported her with another 30, but even this was not enough for the final success.

On the other side, Ekaterina Antropova was once again Scandicci's big weapon. She scored 30 points, recording 7 aces and 41% attacking efficiency. She also deserved the MVP award.

Avery Skinner also made a significant contribution to the victory, adding 16 points.

Fenerbahce has a serious superiority in direct attacking production and blocking, which clearly shows why the Turkish giant managed to reach a golden set. The big difference, however, comes from discipline. Scandicci won a total of 38 points from opponent errors against only 17 for Fenerbahce, and the difference in service errors – 28 against 6 – proved to be huge. It was this element that weighed heavily in the most crucial moments and tipped the scales in favor of the Italian team.
