Halkbank snatched a dramatic victory over Spor Toto and cemented second place

Halkbank won their extremely tough away match against Spor Toto with a score of 3:2 (21:25, 25:21, 22:25, 25:18, 15:12) in a match from the 24th round of the Turkish championship. The victory brought two points to the team, and two rounds before the end of the regular season, they solidified their second position in the standings.

The match offered everything that can be expected from a derby in the final phase of the regular season – comebacks, serious scoring, and drama until the very end. The hosts, Spor Toto, took the lead twice after 25:21 in the first and 25:22 in the third set, but Halkbank found an answer every time. The visitors equalized after 25:21 in the second set, and in the fourth, they imposed control with 25:18 to take the game to a decisive fifth set. There, Halkbank showed more composure and closed the match at 15:12.

Matey Kaziyski finished as the second-highest scorer for the winners with 17 points and a +12 efficiency rating. The Bulgarian outside hitter recorded 1 ace, 61% positive reception, 48% perfect reception, and 50% attack efficiency. The top scorer for Halkbank was Yoandy Leal with 24 points, and Marek Sotola added another 14 for the valuable victory. Tsvetan Sokolov did not participate in the match.

The standout player in the match was the hosts' player, Jesus Herrera Jaime, who exploded with an impressive 39 points. Despite his colossal production, Spor Toto only managed to get one point for the standings. The team is now fourth but remains closely behind Galatasaray, and the battle at the top becomes even more intricate.
Although Spor Toto was ahead in direct scoring in attack (69:59) and blocking (10:7), the match was decided by another key component – errors. Halkbank gained a total of 58 points from opponent errors versus 43 for the hosts, which is a huge difference in a match that went to a tie-break. Furthermore, the visitors were more stable in reception – 52% positive compared to 44%, and it was this better organization in the first touch that helped the team stay in the game during the most tense moments. This is why, despite lower attack efficiency in terms of total points, Halkbank achieved the big victory.
