Bulgarian clash decides the fate of Saint-Nazaire in the French elite

The battle for survival in the elite of the French Marmara SpikeLigue has reached its decisive moment, and a Bulgarian clash found itself at its center. In the last round, Vladimir Garkov's Saint-Nazaire hosts Nikolay Kartev's Montpellier, with survival in the championship at stake for the hosts.
This outcome was reached after a serious administrative issue with Ajaccio. The Corsican club was penalized with a three-point deduction due to financial irregularities, a sanction that was temporarily suspended after the intervention of the CNOSF (French National Olympic and Sports Committee, a mediation body for sports disputes), and the points were reinstated. However, hours before the final round, the penalty came into force again, rearranging the situation at the bottom of the table. VolleyActu.fr announced this with a post on X.

Team Points Wins Losses
Saint-Nazaire 20 7 18
Ajaccio 19 7 18

A minimal one-point difference places Saint-Nazaire above the relegation zone, while the equal number of wins shows how balanced the situation is and how crucial the last match will be.
The Ajaccio case went through several stages – initially a three-point deduction sanction, followed by its temporary suspension and the return of the points, and ultimately its final confirmation just before the season's end. Thus, the option for survival to be decided off the field was eliminated, and everything moved to the pitch.

In the last round on March 21, at the 'Coubertin' hall, Saint-Nazaire hosts Montpellier, while Ajaccio visits Poitiers. Saint-Nazaire's match becomes crucial not only because of the fight for survival but also because of the Bulgarian element with the participation of Garkov and Kartev. Montpellier enters as one of the leading teams in the league, which makes the hosts' task even more difficult.

The equation is clear – Saint-Nazaire holds its fate in its own hands. A win against Montpellier guarantees staying in the elite, while a loss opens the possibility of a turnaround if Ajaccio wins its match. Just days ago, the outcome seemed dependent on decisions off the field, but now everything will be decided in one final match, where the stake for Vladimir Garkov's team is a place in the elite of French volleyball.
