Polish champions Bogdanka LUK Lublin announced that outside hitter Mikołaj Sawicki has signed a new contract with the club for the 2026/2027 season. The decision comes shortly after the 25-year-old volleyball player returned to competitive action after more than a six-month break due to a doping case.
Sawicki went through a difficult period after prohibited substances were found in his system and a procedure was initiated against him by the Polish Anti-Doping Agency. The volleyball player consistently maintained his innocence and appealed the institution's decisions. In early March, he was granted the right to play again.
Despite his prolonged absence, Bogdanka LUK Lublin decided to continue to rely on the player and offered him a new contract for the next season.
Sawicki joined the team before the 2024/2025 season. Previously, he played for Energa Trefl Gdańsk and Skra Bełchatów. In the Lublin squad, the outside hitter played a crucial role in the team's strong season, where, alongside Wilfredo León, he formed the main tandem on the left flank in winning the Challenge Cup and the historic Polish championship title.
The club is already actively working on squad selection for next season, having previously announced the contract extension of head coach Stéphane Antiga, as well as the continuation of collaboration with Marcin Komenda, Wilfredo León, Kewin Sasak, and Alex Grozdanov. Most recently, Maciej Zając's stay was also confirmed.
