Turkish team Galatasaray HDI Sigorta concluded its participation in the CEV Cup tournament after losing its second quarter-final match against Belgian team Greenyard Maaseik. Following a dramatic 2:3 defeat in the first leg, the Istanbul team also lost the away game 1:3 and thus exited the competition.
The Belgian side managed to turn the tide of the match after the first set and secured a 3:1 victory (21:25, 25:14, 25:12, 37:35). Galatasaray started stronger and took the lead, but the hosts gradually took control of the game and convincingly won the next two sets. The fourth set offered exceptional drama and concluded after a marathon battle at 37:35, with which the Belgians sealed their progression.
The top scorer for the winners was Pierre Perrin, who achieved 22 points, while Seppe Maes added 19 points for Greenyard Maaseik's success. For Galatasaray, Gökçen Yüksel and Jean Patry finished with 14 points each, but their contribution was not enough to avoid elimination.
Bulgarian international Georgi Tatarov entered the game in the second, third, and fourth sets with the aim of stabilizing his team's reception. He finished the match with 67% positive reception and 33% perfect reception in this element. The receiver performed 3 serves, committing 1 error, and was sought in attack once, without scoring a point.
Despite efforts at the end of the match, the Turkish team failed to turn the tide, and thus Galatasaray HDI Sigorta bid farewell to European tournaments this season, while Greenyard Maaseik continues its progression in the competition.
